Kaddish for Michael talks about pain, loss and fragility of life. It wishes to give voice and acknowledgment to the experiences we are silent about. Feelings of vulnerability and helplessness experienced in the process of mourning is emphasised by placing the hard candy dolls on the ground and then leaving them to interact with environmental elements and the audience.
In the Jewish tradition,
kaddish is a prayer also read when someone is mourning. Kaddish acknowledge the
pain and the difficult experience and in the same time the prayer is
surprisingly celebrative. It is reminding us to find comfort by strengthening
the acceptance of God’s intentions as well as our awareness that we belong to a
community.
Miscarriage is an experience
most women go through at least once in their lifetime. In the same time, it is
a topic, that is rarely spoken about in our society. Similar to this
experiences involving death, illness and/or emotional pain – which are
otherwise part of normal human existence – most people find uncomfortable to
face and challenging to handle.
